What are they?
Braces are dental devices that move misaligned teeth into their correct position. Braces can also help with improving jaw alignment, speech, and overall oral health.
While some people view braces negatively due to social stigmas, they can drastically assist with improving our quality of life once treatment is completed.
The different types of braces
There are four main types of braces that are readily available in Cebu, Philippines: standard metal braces, ceramic braces, self-ligating braces, and clear aligners.
Conventional Braces
Metal braces are the most common and affordable type of braces. They consist of metal brackets that are bonded to each tooth, and metal wires that are connected to those brackets.
Standard metal braces have been around for a very long time and are extremely effective at treating most forms of uneven smiles.
Ceramic Braces
These are similar to standard metal braces in terms of structure and function, but they have tooth-colored or clear brackets that blend in with natural teeth. They also have clear or white wires and elastics that make them less visible.
Ceramic braces are ideal for people who want a more discreet option for their orthodontic treatment.
Due to their material composition, ceramic braces are usually more expensive than metal braces. They may also require more frequent clinic visits for adjustments.
Self-Ligating Braces
Self-ligating braces are metal braces that use special brackets to hold the wire in place whereas elastics would be used in standard braces. Because of the special brackets, self-ligating braces generally require less maintenance and can have a somewhat shorter treatment time. But in exchange, they may cost twice as much or more than standard braces.
Clear Aligners
These are the most modern and innovative type of braces that use a series of clear plastic trays that fit over your teeth. These trays are customized for each patient, are removable and are changed at regular intervals to adjust the movement of teeth.
Clear aligners are ideal for people who want an aesthetic and convenient option for their orthodontic treatment. They are also virtually invisible and extremely easy to clean.
Because of the technology involved in the production and personalization of clear aligners, they are also the most expensive type of braces. They may also not be suitable for severe or complex cases that require more precise movements of the teeth because of the physical limitations of the alignment trays.
The process
The treatment time needed to correct the alignment of your teeth will greatly vary on the complexity of your case and how well you follow your adjustment schedule. But on average, the treatment time will take more than one year.
When you visit our clinic, here’s what you can expect:
- We’ll conduct a thorough examination of your teeth and listen to your concerns. Then our doctor will explain your options and discuss the suitability of braces for your case.
- If other procedures are required before the installation of your braces, our team will inform you so that you know your options.
Before your appointment, it’s best to have a panoramic X-ray ready to present to our doctor for the full assessment of your case.
When your teeth have stabilized and your braces are ready to come off, you’ll be required to wear a retainer to prevent your teeth from moving back out of alignment.
Is it right for me?
Most people with crooked teeth could greatly benefit from having braces. If even one tooth grows in the incorrect position, other teeth may also be affected. It’s important to note that the younger a patient begins treatment, the shorter the overall treatment time usually is.
How much does it cost?
The price for braces is dependent on factors like:
- The complexity of your case
- The type of material you choose
- How well you follow your routine adjustment schedule
- How often you require replacements as a result of damage or misuse
Because of the numerous factors, braces in Cebu can range from ₱30,000-350,000 ($530-6,100) or more. But the final cost of your overall treatment plan may be different depending on your case.
